Abstract: This study, on the base of the published monographic literature and unpublished
archival sources, presents the genealogy of an Armenian noble family \endash Lebedev. The descendant
of this family was Moise Lebedev, who settled his permanent residence in Bessarabia after the
annexation to the Russian Empire in 1812. As a merchant, he came in the capital of the province
\endash Chisinau/Kishinev, the most important center of commercial transactions from Moldavia,
increasing the commercial bourgeoisie of the newly annexed territory.
During the first half of the 19th century, the representatives of Lebedev family fought for the
confirmation of the title of their nobility. During tsarist period the Lebedev family members held
administrative positions in the territory between the Prut and Dniester.
