Dear Dr Ferran,

I am writing to you in connection with your query about Brig Gen Robert Ian Rawson.
Having searched the Army Staff College archives I can find no record of Gen Rawson being either a student or a member of staff at the Staff College. Although our records regarding staff are incomplete, he was certainly not the Commandant of the College.

However, from the December 1922 Army List I have found the following information about your wife's ancestor:

Operations in the Transvaal March 1902, Orange River Colony and Cape Colony, August 1901 to April 1902. Employed with the Mounted Infantry. Despatches, London Gazette 25 April 1902. Queens South Africa Medal, 4 Clasps, King's South Africa Medal, 2 Clasps.
Sudan, 1905. Operations against the Nyam NyamTribes in the Bahr-el-Ghazal Province. Despatches, London Gazette 18 May, 1906. Egyptian Medal with clasp and Order of The Medjidie, 4th Class.
Sudan 1910. Operations in the Atwot region. Egypt medal with clasp.
