Graham - Major-General Joseph - Bengal Army - died 10th January 1880. Grave at St. Peter's Church, Leckhampton, Cheltenham, Glos. - "Sacred to the loving memory of Major General Joseph Graham, Bengal Army, who died 10th Jany. 1880. Aged 81. Also in memory of Mary Ann Graham, wife of the above, who died April 4th 1884." >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> G'day Jean I've recently started to incorporate the Graham part of my step-father's ancestry into my main PAF file and I've identified an error in your tree concerning Mary Ann Login, the fourth and last wife of Maj.-Gen. Joseph Graham. You have her listed as dying in Cheltenham, whereas she died in Kew, Surrey. Here's my evidence: GRO Deaths Index (London): Graham, Mary Ann 68 June 1884 Richmond S. 2a 207. National Probate Index: Graham, Mary Ann 16th May 1884 The Will of Mary Ann Graham, late of Portswood House, Kew Gardens Rd, Kew in the County of Surrey, Widow, who died 4th April 1884 at Portswood House, was proved at the Principal Registry by Helen Irvine Wintle of Bramley Lodge, Surbiton in the said County, Widow, the Sister, the sole Executrix. Personal Estate £2,552 10s. Will Mary Ann Graham Kew, Surrey 21st November 1883 It is my desire that at my decease after funeral expenses and debts are paid that all that die possessed of either in money or investments be realized and divided into eight shares and given as follows viz: To my Sister Helen Wintle I leave 2 shares; to my Brother William spence Login 2 shares; to my Brother Thomas Login's children 2 shares; To my Brother John Spence Login Children 1 share; to Margaret Beathon 1 share. I appoint my sister Ellen Wintle to be my Executrix and Residuay (sic) Legatee with a Legacy of £30 free of duty. I also bequeath a legacy of twenty pounds to my stepdaughter Mrs Sarah Watts free of duty. Having sent to my Brother William Spence Login a Bill of Exchange for £200 I wish that sum to be deducted from his shares but should his share not amount to that sum he is still to retain the Two hundred pounds. Having also sent my brother Thomas' children in advance Fifty pounds that sum is also to be deducted from their share. Mary Ann Graham Emma U. Gausland Witness Kew 21st Nov. 1883 Clara Lumley Clarke Witness Kew 21st Nov. 1883 Affidavit of due execution filed. On the 16th day of May 1884 Probate of this Will was granted to Helen Irvine Wintle Widow, the sole Executrix. (If you weren't aware yet, the Probate Service in England have reduced their price from £10 to £1.50!! And the LDS have digitized the Wills from 1858 to 1925 which you can now view in their libraries over their intranet). I'm now looking at Joseph's first son, John Higgin Graham. The information you previously provided didn't have any information beyond his birth in India. I've now identified that he married Sophia Mary Butler née Irvine in Wexford in 1860 and had at least two children - Beatrice (1870) and Alfred Henry Irvine (1874) - both of whom were born in Ireland. Alfred did a short service stint in the Royal Engineers (as an NCO!) during the Boer War and then married in London in 1905. He was an electrical engineer by training and appears to have died in Egypt in 1938 as well as marrying a second time there in the 1920s. Do you have any further information on John Higgin Graham and his siblings as well as their descendants? I hope things are going well for you and I look forward to hearing from you Regards David Armstrong Maylands Western Australia
