Guillem de Balsareny was the second son of Guifre de Balsareny († 1034), county vicar of the castle of Balsareny , and of Emma-Ingilberga de Besora. Guifre was the county vicar, for the count of Osona and Barcelona, ??of the castles of Manresa and Balsareny, apart from other castles and honors he owned, by imprisonment or purchase. [2] [3] [4] [5] Guifre's eldest son, Bernat Guifre de Balsareny, [6] first married Sança, and later Guasca, also known as Guascha, nicknamed Bonadona, who assumed the honors of Manresa and Balsareny on the death of his father, died childless; and his younger brothers, Ramon and Enric de Balsareny, died young, without succession. He also had a sister, Ermessenda, who married Seniofred II of Lluçà (+1063)
