Benegal Police, 1882; Special Service with Govt of Bengal, 1887-91; under Govt. of India, Foreign Dept., at Ajmer, Dholpur, and Indore, 1891-1912; retired 1912; served European War 1917-19 (dispatches, O.B.E.). Herbert Cunningham Clogstoun CIE OBE was educated at Wellington College. Worked with the Bengal Police from 1882 to 1887. Promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Police in March 1884. From 1887 to 1891 served as a special assistant to the Bengal Government. After that seconded to the Government of India Foreign Department at Rajaputna. Tutor to the son of the Maharaja of Dholpur in March 1899. From 1906 to 1912 H C Clogstoun was Guardian and Tutor to the Maharajah Holkar of Indore. Retired from the ICS in January 1912. Fought in France as Temporary Captain between 1917 and 1919 and mentioned in despatches in 1918.
