Sacred to the memory of Sir William Marriott Smith-Marriott, Bart, Ma, second son of the late Sir John Wyldmore Smith Bart of Sydling, Dorset, and the Down House, Dorsetshire, and Elizabeth Ann, his wife, daughter and coheiress of the late Revd. James Marriott, LLB, born August 31st 1801, died October 4th 1864; for 39 years the beloved Vicar of this parish. Blessed is he that considereth the poor and needy, the Lord shall deliver him in the time of trouble; Psalms xlj; v. 1. His life is hid with Christ in God: Colossians III. 3. Thy will be done.' The parishioners also subscribed for a brass; the church was repaired in his memory.


William married Julia Elizabeth HODGES, daughter of Thomas Law HODGES and Lady Rebecca TWISDEN, on 29 Dec 1825. (Julia Elizabeth HODGES died on 11 Mar 1842.)


William next married Frances RADCLYFFE, daughter of Robert RADCLYFFE and Unknown, on 11 Apr 1844. (Frances RADCLYFFE died on 30 Sep 1900.)
