Arthur Vivian Watkins (December 18, 1886 '96 September 1, 1973) was a Republican U.S. Senator from Utah, serving two terms from 1947 into 1959. He was influential as a proponent of terminating federal recognition of American Indian tribes, in the belief that they should be assimilated and all special status lifted. In 1954 he chaired the Watkins Committee, which led to the censure of Senator Joseph McCarthy, who had made extensive allegations of communist infiltration of government and art groups.

While serving as a missionary in New York, Watkins met Andrea Rich (18 January 1894 - 31 January 1971).[9] They married in Salt Lake City on 18 June 1913 and had 6 children: Nedra Watkins Reese (8 September 1914 - 18 May 2007),[10] Arthur R. Watkins (31 July 1916 - 23 February 2012),[11] Don Rich Watkins (25 June 1918 - 7 July 1945), Martha Watkins, who was born and died as an infant on 10 December 1919,[3] Venna Mae Watkins Lange, (1 May 1921 - 20 December 2012),[12] and Jeanene Watkins Scott (30 June 1929 \endash 15 May 1995), wife of LDS Apostle Richard G. Scott.[3]

After his first wife's death, on 1 March 1, 1972, Watkins married Dorothy Eva Watkins (18 January 1911 - 17 August 1998) in Salt Lake City. After their marriage, they relocated to Orem.[3]
