MCQUEEN - Lieutenant Malcolm Stewart - 20th Punjab Infantry Killed in action at Benginsel. 3rd March 1902. Aged 24. Son of Lieutenant-General Sir John McQueen. Born November 1877. Served China 1900 (medal & clasp). Serving with 16th M.I. when killed. Memorial at St. Mary Magdalene's Church, Lahore - "In memory of Lieut. Malcolm Stewart McQueen 20th (D.C.O.) Punjab Infantry killed in action at Benginsel, South Africa on 3rd March 1902 while gallantly trying to save a comrade, aged 24. erected by his brother officers."
McQueen, Lieutenant Malcolm Stewart, Indian Staff Corps He was killed in action at Benginsel, ORC, on March 3rd, 1902. He was the son of Lieutenant General Sir John McQueen, was born in November 1877, and educated at the United Services College, Westward Ho. In 1897 Lieutenant McQueen entered the Somerset Light Infantry, at Peshawur, subsequently joining the 23rd Punjab Pioneers and 4th Gurkhas, and afterwards the 2Oth Punjab Infantry in April 1899, with which corps he served throughout the China War. Shortly after his return to India he was selected for service in South Africa with the 16th Mounted Infantry and served with that corps till his death. The day he fell he was in command of a small party which was surrounded by the enemy, and refusing to surrender, he was killed whilst encouraging his men. When only 13 years of age he gained the honorary certificate of the Royal Humane Society for saving a boy's life in the river Medway. Lieutenant McQueen's name was inscribed on a memorial tablet at the United Services College, Westward Ho.
