David Johnstone, Esq. appears as representative for the presbitary of Greenock at the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland on May 28, 1869 (The Edimburgh Evening Courant of May 29, 1869)

His daughter's marriage certificate describes him as "Rope and Sailcloth manufacturer". He was alive then in1872.
