>>> On an autumn morning at the end of the 1800's, Mr. Wyatt, an excellent example of a well to do, pioneristic Englishman, arrived at Menaggio on Lake Como.

Mr Wyatt, before his arrival in Italy, had decided to find a location where he could enjoy his father's inheritance from many years of colonial activity in India.
He stayed for several days in the Grand Hotel Menaggio to enjoy the green colours of the lake and the blue sky with, on the horizon, the Alps of the Valtellina and the Grigioni. He found his future home in Croce, a small hamlet above Menaggio. Mr. Wyatt was determined to enjoy the panorama without, however, forgoing his favourite sport, golf. He needed to find an area where he could build a small course, an idea supported by his neighbour Mr. Mylius, also English, who had been living in Menaggio for some years. They built a course at Dervio on the opposite side of the lake. Fun, but out of the way for the two friends and their friends to traverse the lake for a game of golf.

After more searching a solution was found: a hilly area in Grandola ed Uniti near Menagggio but most important near the homes of the two friends.
For some the Golf Club Menaggio and Cadenabbia was first registered in 1903, while for others the birth of the club is Thursday, 10th of January 1907, when the official decision was taken to start a golf club during a meeting held at the Hotel Victoria in Menaggio, "..... on the Menaggio and Cadenabbia side of the lake". The Italian Golf Federation defines 1906 as the year of the club's affiliation.
THE CLUB'S PRESIDENTS WERE:

from the 1907 to the 1918, Henry John Mylius Esq.
from the 1919 to the 1920, the charge remained vacant
from the 1921 to the 1935, A.W.N.Wyatt Esq.
from the 1936 to the 1960, Cristian Schmid. <<<
