General Notes:
BIOGRAPHY: He attended Cheam Preparatory School (when it was in Cheam) and went from there to Harrow. He went into the army after leaving school and was commissioned into the Scots Fusilier Guards. He was with them in Canada during the American Civil War. He left them in 1863 and retired in 1864. By then he and his mother had acquired Belmont House in Carlow, Ireland. He set about extending and improving his property and being involved in local affairs, at one time being High Sherriff of Carlow. He died in 1932 at the age of 93 and was buried at Old Derrig, Carlow, Ireland.
