  General Notes:

On the death of his brother Henri he was the rightful heir to the family titles and estates. Having, however, escaped from France at the time of his father's imprisonment in 1687, he took refuge in England, where he entered the British army, determining not to return to the land where his father had been martyred. By a formal deed he renounced his rights in favour of his next brother, Maurice; the deed was proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury in 1733. Charles was for some time in Farringdon's regiment. He was still an ensign at the Peace of Ryswick in 1697. He then went to Ireland, where he remained until 1701, when Farringdon's regiment having been disbanded he re-entered the army as lieutenant in 1703. In the following year he was enrolled in the Brandenbourg army and served as a Grand Mousquetaire. He was taken prisoner at Lunengen, but was exchanged at Valenciennes in 1709. He returned to England in charge of his company. He left the army in 1711 and retired - at first to Southampton, but afterwards, in 1722, left the place for Dublin, where he died in 1733. He had married, in 1704, the daughter of Daniel Collot d'Escury, a captain of cavalry, who had served under Marshal Turenne.

Charles married Maria Magdelen DE COLLOT D'ESCURY on 11 Jan 1704 in Holland.
