The family of Bunbury, originally called St. Piere, from a Norman commander, who came over at the time of teh conquest, and shared the fortune of Hugh Lupus, first Norman earl of Chester, and was by him rewarded for his merit and valour, with divers goodly lands and possessions. among them the manor or lordship of Bonebury ( a contraction of Boniface Bury, to which saint the church of that place was dedicated) and from thence this family have since taken their denomination.
The first of which was:

Henry de Bonebury , temp. K. Stephen (1135-1154), whose signature was a Fleur de Lis; he had a brother, called David, and a son who succeeded him, called William de Bonebury, who was succeded by,

Humphrey de Bonebury , who having no issue male, left his inheritance to his two daughters, Ameria and Joan, who, during their minority, were in the custody of Robert Patrick (probably their uncle) of whom this place was held by knights service; but when they came to age, they divided this manor and patronage between them. Ameria's moiety descended to the Patricks; the part of Joan came to Alexander de Bonebury, her kinsman (by whom the family was continued) as son and heir to Patrick, and great grandson to David de Bonebury, or Bunbury, whose signature was on an escutcheon, a Lion passant.
