Dr. Rawson, to the best of my knowledge bought Barrowville House in 1840 /1841.
Barrowville has always been the house name as it still is.
Information on Colonel E A Rawson could be got from the British Army records offices.
All that information is available including where he served lived and died.
Should you find out please email me.

Slater's Directory of Ireland 1842 and 1846 - (Carlow):
Rawson, Thomas J. : Physician, Kilkenny Road, Carlow.
Surgeon at County Gaol, Barrack's Street
Thomas Rawson M.D. Physician at Infirmary Dublin Road
1834: Carlow County Infirmary : Surgeon : Thomas Rawson, Esq., M.D.

From David Boylan, with many thanks for his work:
In researching the various databases available at the Other Days website, I came across a man named Thomas J. Rawson in Carlow Town who was also a military man, also a physician, and also involved in County Carlow government in a similar capacity to Edward Albert Rawson. I am wondering if Thomas J. Rawson was perhaps Edward's father, uncle, or other relation.
In fact I found Thomas J. Rawson listed in several directories at the Other Days site. The first directory, below, is for Officers of the Irish Militia from the year 1849:
Officers of the Irish Militia 1849
This database records all officers of the militia in Ireland in the year 1849 indicating their rank and the units in which they served:
First name Last Name Rank Regiment Date of Appointment Headquarters County:
Thomas Rawson Surgeon County Carlow 15 August 1835 Carlow Carlow
I also found Thomas Rawson in Shearman's New Commercial Directory of 1839, where he is listed three times. That directory listing follows:
Shearman's New Commercial Directory 1839
Shearman's 'New Commercial Directory for the cities of Waterford and Kilkenny and the towns of Clonmel, Carrick-on-Suir, New Ross and Carlow' was published in 1839 and provides a wealth of genealogical and social information on those Irish towns.
First name Last Name Town/City Occupation Address County:

_______
It appears that Thomas's surgery was on Dublin Street in Carlow Town. He must have been a caring physician as the directory shows he took care of the poor in the infirmary and the prisoners in the local Carlow prison.

Another entry for Thomas J. Rawson was found in the Medical Professions category at the Other Days site. This category is a compilation of all the directories in which Thomas J. Rawson was listed in 1839 and 1846. That follows:

Medical Profession 1823-1910 (Southern Counties):
This database records a large number of persons who practiced some form of medicine in several counties of southern Ireland, including doctors, surgeons, dentists, mid-wifes, nurses, opticians and apothecaries

The listings show that Thomas J. Rawson had offices in several Carlow Town locations, other than Dublin Street. These would include Kilkenny Road; Burrin Street; and Barrack Street. But, these entries all beg the questions: was there more than one Thomas Rawson in Carlow town practicing medicine at the same time? Perhaps father and son. Or, are the entries for just one person?

I again found Thomas J. Rawson in the 1849 Thom's Directory for Carlow:
Carlow Directory 1849
Extracted from Thom's Directory for the year 1849, the Carlow Directory provides detailed information on those who played some role in the local government of that county towards the end of the Great Famine.

1849 is the last directory listing I could find for Thomas J. Rawson. But, I did locate him in yet another record available at the Other Days website. This is in a record called Griffiths Valuation, which was a land and tax survey conducted throughout Ireland between 1847 and 1864.
The County Carlow portion of Griffiths was enumerated between the years 1852 and 1853. Below is a partial transcription of the Grififths record:
Occupier: THOMAS RAWSON
Lessor: JOSEPH M. READE
Townland: CARLOW
Parish: CARLOW
Barony: CARLOW
County: Carlow

This entry shows that Thomas Rawson leased his dwelling from a man named Joseph M. Reade. But, yet a second Griffiths record also shows that Thomas Rawson leased property to a man named James Hennessy, right next door. A partial transcription of that entry follows:
Occupier: JAMES HENNESSY
Lessor: THOMAS RAWSON
Townland: CARLOW
Parish: CARLOW
Barony: CARLOW
County: Carlow
______

The Scots Church, Presbyterian Church in Carlow

On the 19th April, 1859 a statute acre or thereabouts of the lands of Borlum was leased from Thomas James Rawson (medical doctor), of Barrowville, Carlow for the erection thereon of a manse with suitable 'office houses' for the residence of Minister.
This land was bounded on the North by William Henderson holding, on the South by Captain Tuckey's and Dr O'Meara's holding and on the West by the road leading from Carlow to Kilkenny. The house now named 'Garryowen' an privately owned featured in Carlow Architectural Heritage by William Garner, published by An Foras Forbartha. It was described as follows:
"Garryowen is an attractive small, three-bay, two-storey, U-plan house, c1850. It has gables on the advanced bay rendered walls with raised coigns, wide eaves and paired segmental-headed window with plain dressings. The doorcase is in the narrow centre section and has a flat segmental-headed light over the lintel. Over the doorcase on the first floor, is a small granite shield." *
