Roland Gundry, son of Theodore Gundry and Germaine Lemasson Gundry, was a violinist and member of Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians. He studied violin under his father and later under Ivan Galamian at the Russian Conservatory in Paris, France where he won first prize at age 13, having made his debut at age 12. In a long career as a free-lance musician, he made numerous transcontinental tours appearing with many distinguished artists including Lauritz Melchior, Artur Rubinstein, Rudolf Serkin, Lily Pons, Jan Peerce and Ezio Pinza among many others. He played with the Bronx Arts Ensemble, at the Casals Festival in Puerto Rico, the Metropolitan Opera and various chamber orchestras. He was also a teacher of music and an avid ham operator. An honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during WWII as an entertainment specialist. He is survived by his French cousins and by his neighbors who will miss him.
