Stephen Killin: Gilbert Rawson was living at Grangemellon, County Kildare, in 1641, but later occupied Grantstown Castle (see, for example, the Irish Statute Staple Books searching under "Gilbert" as well as "Rawson"):

Grantstown Castle was taken by force by Gilbert Rawson (see the cannon ball holes in the photo below) and in his possession by 1653, but was originally a property of the Fitzpatrick family (Earls of Upper Ossory). I understand that an agreement of some sort was eventually reached between the families and that Grantstown Castle was returned to its previous owners, but that the Rawson family retained title to Donoughmore. In any event, there are "Papers relating to the Rawson family of Leix in the Fitzpatrick Papers, 1640 - 1752" held at the National Archives of Ireland in Dublin (which now comprises the Public Record Office), which I have not had a chance to inspect either.
