Sluger
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sluger (plural slugeri; Romanian pronunciation: ['slud??er], [slu'd??er]; sometimes also sulger ['suld??er]) was a historical rank traditionally held by boyars in Moldavia and Wallachia, roughly corresponding to a sort of Intendant or Master of the Larder. It originated in the Slavic služar.

Slugeri were in charge of supplying the courts of Moldavian or Wallachian Princes with meat mainly beef. They were also in charge of distributing meat to the court households. [1]

History of Paulesti:

Another family of boyars (three generations), which left a deep footprint in the history of Păulești village was the Armenian family of Goilov. It is not known exactly when they acquired the whole estate, but according to the data in the archive, already in the year 1847, Noble Luca Goilov owned the village, whether he bought it or appropriated it. From an excerpt of an act we learn: "in 1848 Luca Goilov occupied from the village deacon Culeba, the lot of vines, which he inherited from his parents."
Later, Luca's elder son Ivan (Ion) Goilov bought the entire estate of the village and the famous mansion of Dino Russo from the Russo family. There he lived with his wife Maria Karaymli and his two sons, Luca and Emanuil.
Ivan Luchici Goilov remained in the history of the village and especially in remembrance of people by being the founder of the Church of Păulești. He gave people a lot of land from his domains for the construction of the church, to which he participated together with all the villagers. For the moment we do not know precisely when the abode was edified, somewhere after 1880. But we can clearly ascertain that in the year 1886 the church already worked. This is confirmed by the inscription on the tomb of Ivan Goilov, which is located in the garden of the Church of Păulești (1822-1886).
The Goilov family was made famous in all Bessarabia because of a tragic event, which happened at the court of Boierului two years after his death. This story is still being told today, the information being passed on from generation to generation.
But more accurately and more detached we can find out from the newspaper "Besarabschii vestnic", Num. 43 of 30 October (10 November), 1889, which published an excerpt from the protocol of the judicial hearing on 26 October 1889.
The terrible tragedy happened on August 25, 1888, at the manor of Păulești, where Maria Goilova (54 years) lived with his sister Teresa Karaymli (34 years). In the night, while they were asleep, they were killed with the sharp blade of an axe. The victims were found without teeth and a few amputated fingers (those with golden rings). The bandit proved to be a former worker at one of the properties of the Goilov family (which owned houses in Odessa, Chișinău and other parts). Among the objects found were a bracelet, a gold watch and a beautiful box, bought from Vienna by Ivan Goilov. Also, the axe full of blood, which made the defendant recognize his guilt, was discovered. The offender was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The ladies were buried in the yard of the Church of Păulești, but their souls were not quiet until today, people say, that someone saw their ghost at the court of justice.
The Domain of Păuleștiului was inherited by Luca Goilov. At that time, Luca held the Peacock 265 Desitina of forest, 1,129 of pasture , 77 of vineyards and orchards. In the village there was a fruit-drying enterprise with equipment brought from abroad, as well as 2 windmills.
Luca Goilov died in Păulești in the year 1907, and is buried alongside his parents in the family tomb. He had 2 sons, Constantine and Egor (Gheorghe).

Luca married Maria HEUL.
