Maj-Gen Sir Percy Cyriac Burrell Skinner, CB, CMG, DSO; commissioned in the Northants Regt; OC South African Military Schools (1914); OC 3rd Inf Bde (1914-15); Trekkopjes (1915); Swankopmund (1915); OC 7th Northants (1915-16); OC 41st Inf Bde (1916-18); Somme (1916), Arras and 3rd Ypres (1917); Kaiserschlacht (1918); and OC 14th Inf Bde (1921-22). While still a major in 1914 Percy Skinner was placed in command of a South African brigade and landed in German South-West Africa. Next year he defeated the Germans at Trekkopjes, and under General Botha at Swankopmund, allowing the Allies to seize the region. He was sent to the Western Front to command a brigade in the 14th (Light) Division, one of Kitchener's New Army units. He showed more sense and morale courage than most generals and twice cancelled over-the-top assaults due to the casualties they would have inflicted on his men. Skinner was sent to Ireland after the war, commanding the 14th Brigade in King's County in 1921 and Dublin in 1922. He was knighted on his return from Ireland rose to be a major-general.

Percy married Sophy SMEDLEY in St Paul’s Church Kandy Ceylon Sri Lanka.
