According to family history, which I have been unable to confirm, "a William Gosselin was an officer in Cromwell's army [1649-53], he gave him a large tract of land in co Limerick, which he sold for a small sum of money and a house. On his march through Kilkenny he met a lady by the name of Stotesbury of Cloney Castle in that County to whom he took a fancy and married her.
By this lady he obtained considerable property - there was an old adage relative to her -: "Maurie," (Eng: Mary) Stotesbury of Cloney castle has a little hand but it is always full."
They had three children, Charles (reputedly an MP for Kilkenny but there seems to be no record of such a member of Parliament), an unnamed son who may have married Hannah Pennock, and William. From William (1673 - 1732), our branch of the family is descended.

William married Mary STOLSBURY about 1652. (Mary STOLSBURY was born about 1630 in Cloney castle, Co Kilkenny, Ireland.)
