He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Roscommon. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Leitrim. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Jamestown in 1709. He held the office of High Sheriff of County Leitrim in 1717.2 He lived at Charlestown, County Roscommon, Ireland.

Gilbert married Mary FRENCH, daughter of Dominick FRENCH and Ann KING.
