Maj General Sir Edward Ritchie Coryton Graham was born at Calcutta in 1859. He was educated at Eton and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst and gazetted to the Cheshire Regiment in 1878. He served in the South African War in command of the 2nd Battalion and in 1908 was made Brigadier and Commander of the 8th Infantry and Brigadier and Commander of the South Midland Division in 1814. In the First World War he was eight times Mentioned in Dispatches and knighted in 1918. He retired in 1920. His wife, Ada Douglas, daughter of Mr W Crace, died in 1943 while he died at his home in Thornbury, Holsworth, on 29 January 1951 in his 93rd year[10].

Edward married Ada Douglas CRACE, daughter of Henry Winfield CRACE and Isabella Jessie SCOTT, in 1884 in Christchurch, Hampshire, England. (Ada Douglas CRACE was christened on 15 Jul 1863 in Kilburn St Mary, Camden, England and died on 9 Jul 1943 in Thornbury, Devonshire, England.)
