He married Alice of Chester, daughter of Hugh of Kevelioc, 3rd Earl of Chester and Bertrade de Montfort, in 1192 in a Cheshire, England marriage.
He died on 22 September 1247.2
He gained the title of 4th Earl of Derby after 1189. In 1190/91 he had livery of his lands.
