The Peerage:
Lt.-Col. Sir Eyre Coote was born in 1726.1 He was the son of Reverend Chidley Coote and Jane Evans.2 He married Susannah Hutchinson, daughter of Charles Hutchinson, on 8 July 1763.1 He died on 26 April 1783 at Madras, India, without issue.1
He fought in the Jacobite Uprising in 1745, against the Jacobites.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1755 in the service of the 39th Regiment.1 In 1755 he served in India, including the capture of Calcutta and Clive's victory over Surajah Dowlah at Plassey, Captain Coote being the sole European officer under Clive to urge immediate action, despite the huge odds.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1759 in the service of the 84th Regiment.1 He was Senior Officer of the troops of the Madras Presidency in October 1759.1 He fought in the Battle of Wandewash in 1760.1 He fought in the Capture of Arcot in 1760.1 He fought in the Battle of Pondicherry in 1761.1 He lived in 1762 at West Park, Rockburne, Hampshire, England, which he bought on his triumphant return from India.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Leicester in 1768.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Madras Presidency in 1769.1 He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) in 1771.1 In 1771 Colonel.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1773 in the service of the Inniskilling Dragoons.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Poole between 1774 and 1780.1 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1775.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1777.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the India in 1777.1 He fought in the Battle of Porto Novo in 1781, where he defeated Hyder Ali.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the David Arathoon.3


Eyre married Susannah HUTCHINSON, daughter of Charles HUTCHINSON and Unknown, on 8 Jul 1763.
