""This barony of Duffryn belonged to Maude, the wife of Philip de Prendergast. Earl Strongbow gave his daughter, with the office of Constable and Standard-bearer of Leinster, to Robert de Quincy, who was soon after slain, when these offices were rightly inherited by his only child, Maude, who eventually married Philip de Prendergast ; and it was his wish to hold them which led Raymond le Gros to quarrel with Strongbow.
"We have much to learn yet as to the pedigree of the Pembroke branch of the De Clares. I believe Strongbow to have had more than one legitimate child."

Maud's paternal grandparents were Philip de Prendergast, Lord of Enniscorthy, Constable of Leinster, and Maud de Quincy, a granddaughter of Strongbow, through the latter's illegitimate daughter Basilie de Clare who married Robert de Quincy, Constable of Leinster. Her great-grandfather, Maurice de Prendergast, Lord Prendergast had played a prominent part in the Cambro-Norman invasion of Ireland led by Strongbow, and was rewarded with much land in counties Wexford, Waterford, Tipperary, Mayo, Wicklow, and Cork. ..."

"Philip de Prendergast, the only son of Sir Maurice, was a baron of great wealth and power. He married the only child of Robert De Quincy, Constable and Standard-bearer of Leinster, who was killed shortly after his marriage (with, the chroniclers tell us, a daughter of Strongbow's) in a fight with the O'Dempseys of Offaley. With her, Prendergast, obtained the county of Kinsellagh, the towns of Enniscorthy and Ferns, and the territory of the Duffren, in Wexford, ..."
Maud married Sir Philip DE PRENDERGAST , of Beauvoir, son of Maurice DE PRENDERGAST and Unknown. (Sir Philip DE PRENDERGAST , of Beauvoir was born in 1187 in Enniscorthy Duffrey, Wexford, Ireland and died in 1251 in Douglas, Cork, Ireland.)
