His father acquired Tirfergus and Losset which he bequeathed respectively to John his oldest son by his first marriage and Hector the oldest son by his second marriage
John succeeded him in Tirfergus, and later moved to Ireland and acquired the estate of Faughart in Co. Louth
John married Margaret McNEILL of Gallochellie, daughter of Hector McNEILL of Gallochellie and Unknown, in 1672.
