The Studdert families of Kilkishen and Bunratty, county Clare, are descended from the Reverend George Studdert, chaplain to King William III, who was granted land in county Limerick at the end of the 17th century. His eldest son Thomas Studdert of Bunratty acquired lands in counties Clare, Limerick and Kerry and married a Cusack of Kilkishen. Thomas's second son George inherited Kilkishen, parish of Kilmurry, barony of Bunratty Lower. In 1788 he married Hannah Blood of Castle Fergus. In the 1870s the Kilkishen estate of Major Robert Studdert amounted to 2,317 acres in county Clare. Weir writes that five generations of Studderts lived in Kilkishen house until it was sold in 1924. Thomas Studdert, who held 453 acres in the 1870s, was a grandson of George and Hannah Studdert and lived at Ballyhannon, parish of Quin. His son Thomas George Gabbett Studdert eventually inherited Kilkishen.
